Installation of a Yaesu FTM-350AR
Into a 2011 Jeep JK Unlimited
To mount the antenna, I used mounts by ARR. While I installed two of the mounts only one is used for the FTM350AR.
The antenna mounts install using existing bolts on the rear tire carrier.
Here is the tri-band antenna installed with the spare tire replaced.
In order to mount the radio control head, I used the ARR radio mount bar. The bar installs across the top of the jeep, roll bar to roll bar, above the rear view mirror. Here you see the radio mount bar laying on my driveway. I had to bend the end metal tabes about ten degrees to make it fit correctly. The radio itself is installed under the drivers seat.
Here I have removed the Jeep roof to install the radio mount bar. Note the bar is installed with thru bolts. The other hole is a guide pin placement that allow the roof panels to seat properly.
Now it's time to install DC power. I ran a number 12 gauge wire direct to the battery using the firewall route on the passenger side of the jeep.
Here you can see the DC cable on the other side of the fire wall and as it connects to the battery.
In the center of the picture is a small ball mount made by the Lido company specically for the FTM-350. I used self tapping screws to secure it to the radio mount bar. There is another piece that affixes to the control head of the FTM-350. It allows the radio control head to be moved back and forth / up and down.
And here is the final result. The mounting is rock solid and very easy to view from any vantage. There is no interference with the roof panels or mirror.
Eventualy added the BCT15X scanner and a mount for a Nexus 7
tablet. The tablet pops off the Ram mount when not in use.
